The future of higher education: a meeting between Minister Marcin Kulasek and Roxana Mînzatu

Minister Marcin Kulasek met Roxana Mînzatu, Executive Vice President of the European Commission responsible for social rights, skills, quality work and readiness. The parties discussed key challenges in the field of higher education and prospects for cooperation in the context of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union.

- I am tremendously pleased that we have the opportunity to discuss both the plans of the Polish presidency and the challenges we face. Our meeting is an opportunity to build the future of European higher education together” - Minister Kulasek said.

Priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council

One of the main topics of discussion was Poland's plans for higher education during its presidency of the EU Council. The head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education stressed the importance of inclusive education which is one of the priorities of the activities for the European Higher Education Area. Among other things, they discussed the Plan for a Common European Diploma which would facilitate academic mobility and international cooperation between universities.

European University Alliances

The talks also touched on the future of the European University Alliances and their importance in building a strong, integrated education system in Europe. The parties exchanged views on support for innovative projects and the challenges facing higher education systems in various EU member states.  

Responding to global challenges

The meeting also addressed the role of education in preparing Europe for global challenges, such as digital transformation, climate change and the need to develop the skills of the future. Minister Marcin Kulasek noted the importance of transnational education and support for academic mobility as tools to strengthen Europe's competitiveness in the global labor market.

- The academic community must be ready to participate in building a society that is resilient to difficulties and crises. Education must be closely linked to the challenges of the modern world, including the green and digital transformation, the head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education said.

Strengthening cooperation for a better future

The meeting was a good opportunity to exchange views between Poland and the European Commission in the field of education. Both sides expressed the need to work for innovation in higher education and to build an inclusive educational system that meets the needs of a rapidly changing world. This is an important step towards the ambitious goals of strengthening Europe's position as a leader in innovation and international cooperation.
