The last meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the North Atlantic Alliance countries before the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague, took place on 14-15 May in Antalya, Türkiye. Poland was represented by Minister Radosław Sikorski. The ministerial session was preceded by a dinner hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the archaeological museum in Side.
The talks focused on preparations for the June NATO summit in The Hague and the future of Ukraine. In the face of ongoing threats and challenges, the Alliance must become stronger and ensure a more equitable burden-sharing and further development of combat capabilities. It is also necessary to increase military production in NATO countries. An important topic of discussion was the parameters for increasing defense spending. In this context, Minister Sikorski emphasized that Poland itself spends almost 5% of its GDP on defense and supports ambitious commitments in this area.
The head of Polish diplomacy also argued that it is necessary to continue political and material support for Ukraine, as well as sanctions pressure on Russia.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Radosław Sikorski took part in consultations between the Weimar Triangle and Ukraine. The talks focused on Ukraine's preparations for talks with Russia and on international efforts to achieve lasting peace.
