Polish community and Poles abroad
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for representing and protecting the interests of Polish citizens, as well as for cultural and educational cooperation with Poles living abroad. This task is carried out within the Ministry's competencies and through coordinating efforts with government administration bodies, public institutions, and non-governmental organisations.
Cooperation with Polish communities abroad – a group of nearly 20 million people – should be inclusive and non-partisan. We welcome the decision to entrust the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, starting from 1 July 2024, with new tasks and financial resources in the area of Polish diaspora policy, which were previously within the competence of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. We have been making every effort to focus, during this challenging transitional period, on streamlining the entire system that will serve the Polish diaspora, Poles, and Poland.
The Polish diaspora and Poles abroad are an integral part of the Polish nation, a group entitled to receive all kinds of assistance, protection, and care from the Polish state. The policy towards this group is an important part of the country's foreign policy and follows the principles of partnership and solidarity, taking into account the subjectivity of Polish diaspora partners.
