Economic Forum of the Lublin Triangle States: Poland–Lithuania–Ukraine at the MEDT
14.03.2025
Cooperation in the field of energy security, strategic transport corridors in the region, and the economic situation in light of new international realities were the main topics of the Economic Forum of the Lublin Triangle States, held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology.
Economic Forum of the Lublin Triangle States
When the Lublin Triangle was established nearly five years ago, its founders’ intention was to strengthen the bonds uniting our three nations – Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine – arising from shared historical heritage, common values, and a community of interests, as well as the conviction that there is a need to further deepen and support the development of regional cooperation, particularly in the political, security and economic spheres. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, whose third painful anniversary fell on 24 February this year, has meant that of these three spheres, strengthening international security and defending our common values has become the Lublin Triangle’s primary mission. In the face of rising regional tensions and Russia’s aggressive actions, neighbourly cooperation and solidarity are of paramount importance
- emphasised Minister Krzysztof Paszyk during the official opening of the Forum, co-organised by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.
All three of our countries are developing bilateral economic cooperation – both in terms of trade and investment. In the case of Poland and Lithuania, this takes place within the framework of the common market: Poland is one of Lithuania’s most important trading partners, and we are also developing investment cooperation. In the case of Ukraine, despite the ongoing war, trade continues to grow dynamically – in 2024, the value of Polish exports exceeded EUR 13 billion. Moreover, there are more than 65,000 active businesses in Poland established by Ukrainian citizens. One of the aims of today’s Forum is to discuss the potential for trilateral economic cooperation in areas such as energy, transport and the defence industry
- added the Minister of Economic Development and Technology.
I am convinced that the Lublin Triangle is not only a format for economic cooperation, but above all a confirmation of our commitment to a shared European future
- underlined Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Oleksii Chernyshov.
The Forum featured four discussion panels attended by representatives of government administrations and business from Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. Topics included the economic situation in the region under new international conditions, cooperation in energy security, strategic transport corridors, and the high-technology sector in the field of security and dual-use goods.
Consultations with Deputy Ministers of Economy of Lithuania and Ukraine within the Lublin Triangle
Prior to the start of the Forum, trilateral consultations were held with the participation of deputy ministers of economy. Poland was represented by Deputy Minister Michał Baranowski, Lithuania by Marius Stasiukaitis, and Ukraine by Tetyana Berezhna. Discussions covered, among other issues, the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU and cooperation in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
In light of increasing geopolitical challenges, the defence industries of Poland, Ukraine and Lithuania must cooperate to strengthen regional security and resilience. The Lublin Triangle could serve as a key platform to support defence cooperation, enabling joint research and technology exchange
- stated Minister Michał Baranowski.
